Remploy struggle our struggle

90% solid at least – that was the verdict on yesterday’s spectacular strike action by Remploy workers. Well led by GMB and Unite, Remploy workers are really at the forefront of the struggle against this government. The government’s attack on Remploy represents everything bad about capitalism and the Remploy workers’ resistance represents everything good about our people.

Remploy has been targeted because it is one of the last bastions of class consciousness and well organised trade unionism in the public sector. There is no financial argument for closure. The amount given by tax payers to bail out the banks would keep Remploy going for ten and a half million years. Remploy represents manufacturing, social support for the disabled, and trade unionism. Let’s hope the factories are occupied now and retained for our class and for British manufacturing.
