Putney debates again

Congratulations to the Occupy London Movement for resurrecting the great democratic spirit of the Diggers and Levellers who propelled the English revolution of the mid seventeenth century. They have reconvened the Putney debates 365 years on.

Celebrating the 365th year anniversary of the original Putney Debates, Occupy London is holding a series of events inspired by the Levellers’ and Diggers’ demands for social justice, civil rights and equal access to the land.

The programme of events is scheduled between 27 October and 11 November 2012, and the venue for some events will be St. Mary’s Church in Putney where the Debates started on 28 October 1647.

Contributors include Richard Wilkinson (The Spirit Level), Natalie Bennett (new Leader of the Green Party), Michael Mansfield QC, George Monbiot, Polly Higgins, Jeremy Leggett, John McDonnell MP, Halina Ward, Professor Conor Gearty, Annette Zera, Joseph Choonara, Hilary Koob-Sassen, and many other activists, theorists, writers and artists.

Throughout the New Putney Debates there will be an emphasis on public participation, in the spirit of 1647, when it was said that England was “A Nation of Prophets”

Trump has said if they manages to keep the death toll to 100,000, they’d be doing a “very good job.” Instead of protecting US citizens, his administration launches a campaign of misinformation & anti-China conspiracy theories blaming China for Covid19.

Economically speaking we would expect food prices to go up Overall social cost of production is higher since the social wage has necessarily gone up Millions of workers are not working & yet, strangely for capitalism they are paid, albeit less than before

Shut the Sites! call for building sites to close, so that building workers do not become infected by COVID 19. Construction magnates have too much influence over the government.

We are living in difficult times, being encouraged to socially distance ourselves. It is essential that our union organisation remains intact. Indeed, in this environment our collective organisations are not only needed but should be made to thrive. https://digital.tuc.org.uk/working-remotely-for-trade-unions/
