Michael Gove is apparently very unhappy that our society is so unequal. Has he undergone a Damascene conversion to left wing politics? Gove correctly pointed out that the products of private schools account for many positions in parliamentary politics, the judiciary, the boards of FTSE 100 companies, sport and media, commenting, “…for those of us who believe in social justice, this stratification is morally indefensible….We live in a profoundly unequal society. More than almost any developed nation ours is a country in which your parentage dictates your progress.” Well, would you Adam and Eve it? How strange then that a man with such high moral principles and allegedly capable of logical thought should propose to do absolutely….nothing, when the real answer is staring him in the face!
Gove was displaying his moral credentials while speaking at the independent Brighton College, which he praised fulsomely.
Perhaps if there were no such institutions as private schools then there would be a level playing field for all children and all schools would be raised to the level of good/outstanding as matter of urgency – especially for the off-spring of ‘gentle folk’.
