For many years Germany has been pushing for the Deutschmark-led European Central Bank, the real powerhouse of the European Union, to take control over national government’s budgets. It has repeated this call this week in its attempts to get agreement that each member state should submit its budget plans directly to the EU for approval. This is like saying every country in Latin America should get permission from Washington to set their domestic budgets. We wouldn’t want this for Latin America. we shouldn’t tolerate it in Europe. Self determination is not just a thing to support others in achieving it is a material necessity for us in Britain and for every working class in Europe.
